ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING

On 10th January 2020, new regulations came into effect in the UK and EU to mitigate the risks of money laundering within the art market. These regulations have practical implications for purchasing art which we wish to make you aware of.

Whether you are a new or existing client of ours, if you are making a purchase from us in the future which is over €10,000 (approximately £8,500 or $11,000), either in one transaction or a series of transactions, we will need to verify your details and ask you for proof of I.D. (in the form of a passport or photo I.D., for example). Payment for items of or over €10,000 must be received from a bank account which is held in the same name that appears on the invoice.

If payment is made by a third party, then we will ask for proof of I.D. for the ultimate purchaser. For payments being made by companies, charities, museums or trusts, we will ask for evidence of incorporation and details of any directors and proof of I.D. for the ultimate owner.

We will only be able to accept funds following confirmation that the source of funds is in line with these new legal requirements. This may require us to request further forms of I.D., such as a bank statement for the account from which payment is being made.

Should you wish to complete these checks in advance, or if you have any questions, please contact us. We would like to assure you that all information you provide will be treated confidentially and securely held in accordance with the sections described in this Privacy Policy.
