| Ron Arad Studio Works 1981 - 2003 | ||
The Louisa Guinness Gallery is proud
to announce the opening of ‘Ron Arad studio works: 1981 –
2003’, Arad’s first solo exhibition in London since ‘Before
and after now’ at the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2000.
Assuming a creative style both dramatic and mischievous,
Arad’s career has been an exploration of a difficult territory
between art, design and architecture, and thus fitting into the gallery’s
oeuvre of art objects. |

Including some new pieces and all original and highly recognisable forms, this show will cover limited and unique works since 1981, and will comprise of chairs, coffee tables, lamps, desks and sofas. By using individual sheets of steel and other materials, and by exploring their formal and functional possibilities, the breadth of Arad’s sculptural forms are both a treat to the eye as much as they are fully functional objects of design. The originals on show here have in some cases been developed by such known houses as Moroso, Alessi, Kartell, Vitra and Magis. |

Born in Tel Aviv, 1951, Arad studied
at the Jerusalem Academy of Art and the Architectural Association in
London, and has since become one of the few artist/designers having
had a strong presence in the London design scene since the early 80’s.
His projects are quite varied, Arad’s large scale design and architectural
works include, to name a few, the public spaces of the New Tel Aviv
Opera, the Belgo restaurants, The Big Blue in Canary Wharf and currently
the new Yohji Yamamoto flagship store in Tokyo and the headquarters
of Maserati in Italy. He has also made many special commission pieces
for private homes all easily recognisable by his very individual style.
